The school zone speed photo enforcement program goal is to increase driver compliance in the reduced speed zones while improving the safety of students in nearby schools.
A total of 19 cameras have been installed around 10 Norfolk Public School locations. Camera activation will begin on March 4 with a 60-day warning period for drivers.
The ViolationRegistered owners caught speeding in a school zone during designated school hours will receive notice of violation/citations that will require the payment of a $100 fine after the warning period ends on May 3. Instructions as to how to pay the fine will be provided with the notice of violation/citation.
Cameras are located near Bayview, Larchmont, Little Creek, Norview and Richard Bowling elementary schools; Ruffner Academy and Southside STEM Academy; and Booker T. Washington, Granby and Norview high schools.
Signage alerting drivers of cameras were installed at least 100 feet before the cameras’ locations.
