FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Assistance (HMA) grant programs provide funding for eligible mitigation activities that reduce disaster losses and protect life and property from future disaster damages including the Hazard Mitigation Grant Program (HMGP), Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM), Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) and Building Resilient Infrastructure and Communities (BRIC).
Flood Mitigation Assistance is a competitive grant program that provides funding to state and local governments to help reduce or eliminate the long-term risk of repetitive flood damage to structures insured by the National Flood Insurance Program. FMA funding is available through the National Flood Insurance Fund and appropriated by Congress on a yearly basis, and supports activities that have a long-term impact on future disasters and enhance community flood resilience within NFIP-participating communities.
- Eligibility Criteria:
- Maintain an active flood insurance policy throughout the application process to be considered for grant funding.
- Be classified as a Severe Repetitive Loss (SRL) or Repetitive Loss (RL) in the National Flood Insurance Program.
