In an intimate look into the world of Padbol, Gustavo Miguens, the founder of this exciting sport, immerses readers in an unfiltered conversation exploring the incredible global growth, values and future plans to take this sporting phenomenon to new frontiers. A journey through the history and current impact of a discipline that unites people from all over the world around a common passion: Padbol!
How would you describe the growth and acceptance of Padbol worldwide?
Sometimes I find it hard to believe (smiles). Padbol has grown in an incredible way and had a total acceptance. It is a sport that attracts many people, even those who have never played any sport before. Its dynamics allow people of all ages and skill levels to adapt easily. It is easy to learn and generates instant enthusiasm.
What are the core values that you consider Padbol promotes among its players and supporters?
Transparency and mutual respect are values that we uphold both in competitive moments and in our lives.
Padbol promotes fundamental values that go beyond the sport and are reflected in the player, not only during the game, but also in all aspects of our padbol community. They also extend to our business relationships and the way we engage new members.
What are the future plans for expanding Padbol globally?
We have a lot of them, and I don't know if you have enough time to listen to them all (laughs). Right now, we are working on the development of a new franchise model in the United States, an initiative that we believe will transform the scope of the sport. We are confident that this will further accelerate the exponential growth that Padbol has experienced since I founded it. This new franchise structure will open doors to new communities and audiences, I guarantee it.
What specific aspects of Padbol do you think appeal to new players, especially those who may not be familiar with the sport?
I think it's a unique combination. First of all, the visual aesthetics of the court is striking and catches from the first moment. Also, the fast and fun dynamics of the game is a key factor. It makes it an extremely exciting and addictive experience.
How have technology and digital media influenced the promotion and development of Padbol over time?
I would say that it has been a key factor in the promotion and development of Padbol over time. A lot has to do with the fact that today we are in more than 30 countries today. It is so fundamental that those who acquire our franchise receive marketing and paid advertising advice during the first months, because we understand the importance of technology today. In addition, we are introducing our PADBOLMATCH app, which transforms the user experience by allowing everything from reserving courts to recording and sharing the best plays on social media with friends. The latest courts we offer even feature a digital scoreboard controlled wirelessly through a fit wristband, worn by the player during play.
We are constantly looking for innovation, and technology is our main tool.
Are there any plans to introduce new rules or adaptations to the game of Padbol that will make it even more exciting or accessible to a wider audience?
We are dedicated to continuously improve the game to make it more dynamic and exciting. The International Padbol Federation (FIPA), holds meetings all the time to analyze every aspect of the game, evaluating each official competition in detail. We work with methodologists, instructors and other external experts to improve all the time. Padbol is one of the sports with the lowest injury rate, and it is not a matter of chance, but of a meticulous approach, something we always emphasize in making any decision.
What has been the most outstanding Padbol event or competition to date?
It's hard to choose one, because they have all contributed significantly to the growth of the sport (think for a while). If I take into account the call and the impact, I could tell you the last World Cup of Padbol in Brazil. Eighteen countries participated, it was a record for us. Besides, it was an event comparable to any high-level international sporting event, it was incredible.
How do you promote the formation and training of new players and coaches in the world of Padbol?
This year, we have taken an important step forward with the creation of the PADBOL ACADEMY, an initiative promoted by the federation in response to the growing demand for professionalization of the sport. It arises from the need to educate and train new players and coaches in a more structured way. The more the sport grows, the more infrastructure it needs. Through online training and congresses held in different parts of the world, we seek to raise the level of the sport, not only by training referees and coaches, but also by promoting the creation of youth categories. This is very positive for our growth and development. It also creates job opportunities within our community.
How do you promote the inclusion of people with different abilities and backgrounds in the Padbol community?
Inclusion is one of our priorities. In fact, let me tell you that in our last World Cup we had special matches involving people with prosthetics. These matches were televised internationally in order to raise awareness. In addition, some countries competed with mixed teams, which represents the true magic of Padbol. This sport knows no borders, gender or limitations of any kind; it is an example of total integration.
From your perspective as founder, how do you envision the future of Padbol in the coming years in terms of its global reach and impact on society?
My dream and long-term goal is to see Padbol become an Olympic sport and recognized worldwide. It is something we are constantly working on. The legacy I hope to leave is to have contributed to the consolidation of a sport that unites people from diverse cultures, promotes values of inclusion and passion for the game.
